Joint Chambers comment on the Settlement of Labor Dispute Law

Tuesday, July 17, 2018 (All day)

The GMBC along with all the other foreign chambers had a great discussion at the meeting on 13th July 2018 arranged by the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industy (UMFCCI). The topics discussed are relating to the current labour law and labour dispute sentiment law.

The Joint Chambers are aware of changes proposed to the Settlement of Labour Dispute Law by the Second Amendment Bill to that law. While generally supportive of many changes to the law, the Joint Chambers are concerned that some of the proposed changes will have a negative impact on our members and the Myanmar economy. These changes are not in line with international norms and practices and will make Myanmar a riskier place to invest.

As discussed at the meeting, the foreign chambers together prepared a submission paper setting out comments on the draft Dispute Settlement Law which aim to consolidate the position of foreign chambers and companies.
